Many people who come to train with us that have very high quality knives but struggle with the cutting techniques because the bevel angle on their edge is too steep. A bevel angle that is too large restricts or severely limits the carving ability of the knife causing great frustration.
While it is nice to have a knife that is specifically built for bushcraft, most quality knives will easily perform bushcraft tasks if the bevel is reprofiled to the proper edge angle (approximately 25-30 degrees total). Previously only available to students, we are now offering this service to all of our customers. Folders and fixed blades are both welcome. This process is done using a 1000 grit waterstone that is water cooled to ensure the temper is not affected in any way. Afterwards, the edge is stropped to a razor sharp, mirror finish. The featured picture is of a customer's knife with the reprofiled and finished bevel to provide an example of what you can expect.
